Rev. Henry Bowdon Jr.
Visiting Minister, I have just begun my 61st year as a minister in the Louisiana Annual Conference and have just begun my 18th year as an associate minister at St Luke Simpson. My work here has been the happiest years of my ministry.
My Responsibilities: To vist the hospitals, nursing homes and the home bound
E-mail:
Henry Bowdon Jr.
Hobbies/Past-times: My hobbies are traveling, fishing and hunting for gemstones to cut and polish. My favorite pastimes are working with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts programs.
Favorite aspects of job: Meeting the needs of our members. It is such a joy to know that I have a small part in helping through a hard time by visiting them, praying for them and sharing the good news of our Christian faith.
Pet Peeve: The Privacy Act which makes it very difficult to visit in the hospitals. Unless I have been given a room number by the family or the exact name of the patient I trying to visit, because of this law the hospital is not allowed to give out that information.
Favorite Comfort Food: Black eyed peas, fresh home grown tomatoes and boiled okra mixed together with a big glob of mayonnaise in a large bowl served with cornbread. My next favorite is snow crab legs.
Quote/mantra/scripture: In the Old Testament, Psalm 23 helps me to trust God as my Shepard who is with me in good times and in hard times. In the New Testament, John 3:16, assures me that God loves me enough to send His Son to die that I might have life in the fullest here and now and in the hereafter. No matter how hard life gets, this knowledge keeps me putting one foot in front of the other.

Hobbies/Past-times: Fishing, swimming and playing with my precious grandsons, Dylan and Drew. I’m a Registered Nurse and have worked the majority of my career as an Operating Room nurse. I work full-time at Christus St. Patrick Hospital as a Clinical Data Analyst in the Surgery Department. I feel very blessed to work in a Christian environment with all of the dedicated Healthcare professionals that I encounter on a daily basis.
Favorite aspects of job: I really love introducing new songs to the Praise Team and subsequently to the congregation. It never fails….the ones that we struggle the most to learn usually become our “favorites”. It’s fun to watch the songs evolve over time. It is an absolute pleasure to work with such a dedicated and fun-loving group of singers and musicians. We all work toward and share a common goal and that is to strive to “make disciples for Christ” through our participation in leading worship in the True North Service.
